Here at Sterling we’re excited to announce the arrival of a new engineer: Joe LaPorta! He is joining our ranks as a Senior Mastering Engineer.
Joe began his career at The Lodge and over the past ten years has amassed an impressive discography of artists including the Foo Fighters, Solange, Vampire Weekend, Tiesto, The Killers, Beach House, Garbage, Jimmy Cliff, Armin Van Buuren, Neutral Milk Hotel and many more. The new Jimmy Cliff record Rebirth, which Joe mastered, won a grammy for Best Reggae Album at the awards ceremony last month; his work is routinely praised by critics, often awarded the influential “Best New Music” accolade on Pitchfork.
Joe’s start in music production began when he was a senior in high school. He initially produced hip hop and electronic music and went on to work with artists including 50 Cent, GZA (of Wu Tang Clan) and Talib Kweli. He and a partner then founded an independent record label that secured a distributed deal with Caroline/EMI. He also licensed his original compositions to major film and TV clients including Fox, MTV and Showtime. His diverse background and knowledge of music have attracted a wide range of mastering clients from Billboard chart toppers to up-and-coming indie acts.
A graduate of NYU’s prestigious Music Technology program, Joe’s broad understanding of audio has also earned him a position as a consultant for one of the world’s leading forensic musicologists. He has analyzed cases for hundreds of artists ranging from The Beatles to Michael Jackson.
